John in his Jeep coming down Big Sluice on the Rubicon

John's Jeep is a 91 YJ with several modifications. He now lives in Oregon but still a die hard member of the Sierra Stompers. He was one of the founding members in Feb of 1999. He has a 4.5" in. lift with 35 in. tires on 8" steel wheels. For protection he has a Warn rear bumper and Currie rocker bars. After installing Dana 44 axles out of an early 80's Waggoner it was equipped with on-board air via a York compressor to power ARB lockers and for airing up tires after trail running. Under the hood you'll find the original straight six fuel injected motor with a optima battery. He has a 5 speed manual transmission and runs the stock 231 transfercase with a tail shaft conversion. These Jeeps are sturdier than you may think. On one Sunday afternoon while running his dogs his rear driveshaft broke a u-joint while climbing a steep hill. It caused the Jeep to go sideways on the hill and ended up doing 4 1/2 complete rolls down the hill. He drove it home after it was winched onto the wheels! A new grill, hood, fenders and windshield frame and it looked like new!
